Important Air Show Announcements
MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII – In preparation for the Kaneohe Bay Air Show and Open House on Oct 17 & 18, base personnel, and those who visit, should plan accordingly for the following:
Military, First Responder, and Education Day: Military families are invited to the Air Show rehearsal on Friday, Oct. 16. Gates open at 9 a.m., and the Air Show will begin at 11 a.m. While the Air Show is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, the Friday rehearsal is only open to service members, military families, retirees, and DoD civilians. Authorized patrons are allowed to sponsor guests on base as long as they accompany their guests.
Increased Noise: From Oct. 12 to 19, members of the surrounding community can anticipate an increase in aircraft activity in Windward Oahu. The Blue Angels are scheduled to arrive Oct. 12 between noon and 4 p.m., and military and civilian aircraft are scheduled to arrive and rehearse Oct. 13 through 16, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The air show’s demonstrations are slated to take place Oct. 17 and 18 between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and the military and civilian aircraft departures are expected to occur Oct. 19 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. While these times are offered for planning purposes, please understand they may change without notice. MCB Hawaii appreciates the community’s understanding and continued partnership and support for our service members.
Base Access: Between Oct. 16 – 18, the Mokapu Road gate, commonly referred to as the Back Gate, will only be open to MCB Hawaii base residents, or those who have a vendor, performer, or promoter pass. All others, regardless of whether they possess a military identification card, active duty or retiree, will be turned around and told to enter through the H-3 main gate. Drivers will need a DoD Decal or Temporary Pass to get through the Mokapu Road gate.
Bicyclist and Pedestrian Access: Between Oct. 16 – 18, bicyclists and pedestrians without a military ID will be directed to the H-3 Front Gate. Bicyclists and pedestrians with a military ID will be permitted to use the Mokapu Road gate. All bicyclists and pedestrians, regardless of whether they possess a military ID, will not be permitted to exit through the Mokapu Road Gate between 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Oct 17 and 18; they will be directed to exit through the H-3 Front Gate.
Shuttle Bus and Parking Information: On Oct. 17 – 18, between 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., free shuttle service will operate between Base Housing and the Kaneohe Bay Air Show site; and 2 between various parking areas and the air show site. Various parking lots aboard MCB Hawaii will be reserved for Air Show parking. Military members and families living in Base Housing are encouraged to catch one of the Blue Line Shuttles running between housing and the Air Show site. Please refer to the Blue Housing Bus Route map for numeric bus stop locations. ID cards checks will be conducted for outbound Blue Route at the Main Bus Station. www.kaneohebayairshow.com/parking.html
Security Measures: Strict security measures will be in place. The only authorized areas for non-DoD ID holders is parking and the Air Show site, to include the carnival, static displays, and show lines. Visitors found to be in unauthorized areas will be escorted off-base.
The Kaneohe Bay Air Show and Open House will be hosted aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii Oct. 17 and 18. The event is open to the public with free admission and parking. Gates will open to the public at 9 a.m.
